Mark Rigsby is a Professor at The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, where he currently serves as Museum Director and teaches studio courses in drawing, printmaking, and ceramics.
Rigsby earned his BFA in Ceramics and Painting from Auburn University in 1991 and his MFA in Ceramics and Sculpture from the University of Alabama in 1997.
In graduate school, Rigsby began research in the ancient techniques of wood-fired ceramics and kiln construction. This research continues to inspire his work today. He has worked in clay for over 30 years.
While Rigsby’s studio practice includes drawing, painting, and printmaking, his primary creative research and studio practice focuses on making fine-crafted wood-fired and soda-glazed works in stoneware and porcelain.
His works have been exhibited in numerous regional and national exhibitions, galleries, and museums across the country. Some of these include the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, Laurel, MS, the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art, Biloxi, MS, the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, Auburn, AL, the San Angelo Museum of Art, San Angelo, TX, the American Craft Council Show, Atlanta, GA, and the Smithsonian Fine Craft Show, Washington, DC.
